Additional Backup Information:

Pursuant to state law, the Mayor may sign a Declaration of Local State of Disaster that is valid and in effect for seven days.  A Declaration of Local State of Disaster may not extend beyond seven days unless it is then extended by City Council. Based on information from emergency personnel, Mayor Kirk Watson signed a Declaration of Local State of Disaster on October 17, 2024, due to concerns related to the widespread and severe property damage, injury, and loss of life due to persistent heat, high winds, and drought conditions creating a severe risk of wildfires preceding and concurrently with the issuance of the Declaration. This action approves a resolution extending the Declaration of Local State of Disaster from the date it was signed until terminated by Council action.

The Declaration is not intended to inhibit or prohibit business activities, as the City continues normal business operations.
