Additional Backup Information:

This emergency contract was for fueling services during Winter Storm Mara when fuel was in short supply or unavailable. Additionally, this contract allowed Austin Energy (AE) field crews and mutual aid crews to optimize their time and focus on the priority of restoring electric service to AE customers.

On February 21, 2023, Governor Abbott declared a major disaster for counties impacted by Winter Storm Mara, which included the AE service territory. At its peak, nearly 174,000 customers (32% of customers) were without power due to the storm. AE activated Incident Command functions, and crews worked around the clock to restore power. AE engaged Sun Coast Resources, LLC through a referral from the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM). In its effort to serve the community swiftly, AE accepted the referral and moved forward with services prior to obtaining Council approval. There was delay in bringing this request forward due to the contractor erroneously invoicing TDEM for services.
