Bowie High School in the Austin Independent School District (AISD) opened in 1988 and had enrollment of approximately 2,900 students in the 2023-2024 school year. The school is at the southwest corner of West Slaughter Lane and Wolftrap Drive.
A pedestrian refuge island with a marked crossing exists on Wolftrap Drive along the school frontage to facilitate students using the church parking lot on the east side of Wolftrap Drive. A marked crosswalk farther south on Wolftrap Drive near the school driveway serves students walking from the residential area to the south. Observations were made by Transportation and Public Works Department (TPW) staff during the school's morning and afternoon peak times in February 2025. Both pedestrian crossings on Wolftrap Drive are actively utilized by students, with more than 180 pedestrians during the morning peak and more than 260 pedestrians during the afternoon peak at the crossing nearest West Slaughter Lane. During these same times, there is also heavy vehicle utilization of Wolftrap Drive.
