September 26, 2024 - Council approved Resolution No. 20240926-014 authorizing the Economic and Cultural District Framework Policy, which provides community and policy makers guidance to identify, organize, and resource Economic and Cultural Districts.

This action will designate the Govalle Cultural District for the area bounded by the following properties: 916 Springdale Road, 979 Springdale Road, 900 Springdale Road, 3600 Lyons Road, and 3601 Govalle Avenue.
This district hosts a significant concentration of arts organizations and local small businesses, with anchors including Canopy Austin, the Museum of Human Achievement, the Austin Bouldering Project, Springdale Station, and Govalle Elementary School.
These organizations have undertaken a planning process for their district in accordance with requirements from the Texas Commission on the Arts' Cultural District guidelines and have obtained petitions of support for cultural district designation from a majority of property owners and a majority of arts organizations and small businesses in the district's boundaries.
