At the request of the City of Houston (Houston), Austin Police will provide law enforcement services related to 2026 FIFA World Cup operations in Houston, Texas.
Houston has been designated as a Host City for certain matches and related activities associated with the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Houston has been awarded grant funding from appropriate federal and/or state funding authorities to support eligible public safety expenditures, including overtime compensation for law enforcement officers deployed in connection with the event. Houston specifically requested assistance from Austin Police with the deployment of three bomb technician officers who can offer specialized skills and knowledge to enhance safety during this series of special events. The City of Houston will reimburse the City for the services provided by the City through a cost recovery model based on its FIFA World Cup Grant Program Funds.
To ensure that the City receives timely payment from Houston for the law enforcement services provided by Austin Police, the City Manager’s Office authorized the interlocal agreement on June 5, 2026.
