Additional Backup Information:
The City’s Animal Services Office has provided animal-related services to Travis County (County) throughout the unincorporated areas of the County pursuant to various agreements with the County since 1985. City and County staff worked together for several years to consolidate the patchwork of agreements and amendments for these services, resulting in an interlocal agreement that was approved by the Travis County Commissioners Court on September 27, 2007, and City Council on October 18, 2007. The original interlocal agreement was renewed several times prior to adoption of the interlocal agreement currently in operation, which was approved by City Council on December 9, 2021.
A written interlocal agreement between the City, through its Animal Services Office, and the County, through the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, has not been put in place prior to this request. If approved, this would be the Animal Services Office’s first interlocal agreement specifically with the Travis County Sheriff's Office for animal cruelty cases.
