September 26, 2024 - Council approved Resolution No. 20240926-057 accepting grant funding to implement the Austin Police Department Sexual Assault Evidence Testing Project.

This is the seventh year of this project. This action will provide the required resolution needed by the Criminal Justice Division to complete the award process related to $350,000 in grant funding. The project period is September 1, 2025 - August 31, 2026. A City match is not required.
Criminal Justice Division funding for the Sexual Assault Evidence Testing Project will allow the City to contract with outside laboratories to complete DNA testing of sexual assault kits, buccal swabs, and additional items to aid in casework investigations. During the project period, the City will seek to resolve investigative backlogs through the analysis of over 420 pieces of sexual assault evidence using newly and previously collected samples.
