Additional Backup Information:
Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology is used as an investigative and real time crime tool that improves the effectiveness of police operations by locating violent offenders quickly and identifying missing persons. City Council directed the development of a revised ALPR policy and guidance on that policy to ensure the privacy and civil rights of the residents of Austin are protected. This action will approve a resolution to allow for the ongoing implementation of ALPR programming. The City Auditor presented its final pilot analysis report to the Audit and Finance Committee on May 19, 2025, and is issuing a supplemental memorandum no later than May 30, 2025. The pilot performance period end date is June 21, 2025.
