Additional Backup Information:

The Austin-Travis County Sobriety Center Local Government Corporation d/b/a The Sobering Center (Sobering Center) serves individuals who meet the legal definition of intoxication. The Sobering Center aims to enhance public health and public safety by providing an alternative to the emergency room and jail whereby individuals are referred and transported to the Sobering Center by law enforcement or emergency medical services.

The Sobering Center Articles of Incorporation require approval by both local bodies of government who created the Sobering Center and appoint the Board of Directors. The administrative changes will align all board member term expiration dates to December, replacing the current structure where some terms end in September and others in December. The Sobering Center Board of Directors approved this amendment on August 13, 2025.
