AmeriCorps is a national service program designed to fight poverty through the utilization of VISTA members who commit to serve full-time for a year at a non-profit organization or local government agency. VISTA members are nationally recruited college graduates who work on initiatives that deal with community issues like literacy, health services, economic development, and neighborhood building in return for a monthly living stipend and an educational award at the end of their term of service paid by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

The City has benefited from placement of VISTA members for many years. This agreement will provide for the placement of up to 24 AmeriCorps VISTA members annually within the City over the next 5 years. The cost of up to 5 of the AmeriCorps VISTA members will be cost shared by the City and AmeriCorps, and AmeriCorps will fund 100% of the cost of up to 19 of the AmeriCorps VISTA members.
