Additional Backup Information:

On November 5, 2024, a general election was held for City of Austin Council districts 2, 4, 6, 7, and 10 and for the Mayor. The City Charter and Texas Constitution require a candidate to receive a majority of all the votes cast for the office. Should no candidate receive a majority, Council shall issue a call for a runoff election for every position to which no one was elected. Such run-off election shall be held in accordance with state law, and the two (2) candidates who received in the preceding election the highest number of votes for each place to which no one was elected shall be voted on again, and the candidate who receives the majority of the votes cast for each such place in the runoff election shall be elected.  For the November 5, 2024, election, candidates for Districts 2, 4, 6, and 10 and for Mayor received more than 50% of the vote and so were elected outright with no need for a runoff election.  In District 7, no candidate received a majority of the votes cast, and therefore the individuals who received the first and second highest number of votes will go on the runoff ballot.
