This contract provides for the purchase of one complete, spare rotor assembly. Although Austin Energy is committed to using these units as little as possible, a spare rotor assembly will enable Austin Energy to increase reliability and availability during critical periods of peak power demand.
The authorized repair facility for the Decker Creek Power Station, Pratt & Whitney FT4 generation units is in Massachusetts and the process to ship, repair and return a rotor takes five months at minimum. Maintaining a fully assembled spare rotor will minimize repair downtime, maintain black-start capability, and strengthen reliability.
