Additional Backup Information:
The City is undergoing the five-year revision process for the Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (HMAP). The City has an opportunity to establish an HMAP committee comprised of staff and community members with expertise in hazard mitigation and related disciplines. This HMAP committee will be tasked with providing input on the City’s updates to the hazard mitigation plan. Moreover, having a City Council approved HMAP committee will allow the City to improve its Community Rating System (CRS) classification beyond the current Class 5 rating. The improved rating will increase the discount on flood insurance policies by an additional five percent, providing financial relief to home and business owners. This item aligns with the goals and direction outlined in Resolution No. 20240530-113.
FEMA regulations require the governing body to approve the HMAP committee for that committee to count towards improvements in the community rating for flood insurance.
