Williamson County recently completed an ATLAS 14 rainfall-based floodplain mapping study update for the entire county. This effort was funded in part by a Texas Water Development Board Flood Infrastructure Fund grant. The modeling for the floodplain study was based on Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) topographic data from 2015 and 2017, which was the best available data at the time of the study. While this data is still adequate in most places, it does not adequately represent topographical conditions in certain recently-developed areas. Williamson County is seeking to partner with other communities with jurisdiction in Williamson County to fund the incorporation of 2024 LiDAR topographic data into floodplain mapping for these areas.
The City will be responsible for funding the update of selected areas within its jurisdiction in Williamson County. The fee estimate developed by the County's consultants for updating modeling and mapping within the City of Austin is $57,160. Under the interlocal agreement, the City will pay 50 percent of the consultant fee ($28,580) upfront and reimburse the County for the remaining 50 percent within 60 days of completi...
