Additional Backup Information:
Austin Forensic Science recently changed vendors for maintenance of the Automated Biometric Identification Systems (ABIS), which maintains finger and palm print booking records, to Aware. The change to the new City vendor requires a technical update to the previous interlocal agreement with Travis County. The Aware ABIS is used to assist in identifying and booking criminal defendants based on finger and palm prints. The City and County determined that it is mutually beneficial for the County to continue entering finger and palm print records into the same database, increasing the search pool and statistical power of the database.
