December 18, 2025 - Council adopted Ordinance 20251218-003 establishing classifications and positions in the classified service of Austin Fire.

This ordinance repeals Ordinance No. 20251218-003 and establishes authorized strength at 1,358 positions and the number of positions at each rank of Austin Fire, effective October 1, 2026.

This ordinance creates a single new Lieutenant position effective in the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year. The new Lieutenant position will be assigned to the Fire Marshal's Office and will fulfill the City's obligations under an interlocal agreement with the Austin Independent School District (AISD). Pursuant to that interlocal agreement, AISD will fund and provide office space for a Lieutenant. The Lieutenant's primary responsibility will be inspections and maintenance in support of AISD projects. Council approved negotiation and execution of the interlocal agreement during its January 22, 2026, meeting. The parties executed the agreement on July 27, 2026, and the agreement was effective on August 1, 2026. The interlocal agreement has a one-year term with three one-year renewal options.

This ordinance creates 32 new Firefighter positions effective October 1, 2026. These positions are required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and will be used to implement the new "Austin Schedule....
