Additional Backup Information:

Approval of this item will authorize the Austin Public Health Department to ratify the agreement with Travis County for the City’s provision of public health services to residents of the unincorporated areas of Travis County.

Pursuant to the terms of various agreements, the Austin Public Health Department has provided public health services throughout the unincorporated areas of Travis County since 1985. City and County staff worked together for several years to consolidate the patchwork of agreements and amendments for these services, resulting in an interlocal agreement approved by the County Commissioners Court and City Council on September 27, 2007 and October 18, 2007, respectively. This original interlocal agreement was renewed several times prior to adoption of the current interlocal agreement.

Today’s action will authorize negotiation and execution of an interlocal agreement with Travis County for the City’s provision of public health services, for a 12-month period beginning October 1, 2021 in an amount not to exceed $4,814,000.

Pursuant to this interlocal agreement, the Austin Public Health Department will continue to provide public health services, such as HIV outreach and prevention, immunizations, disease surveillance, vital records, chronic disease prevention, communicable disease services, epidemiology and disease surveillance, Health Authority services, tuberculosis elimination, and environmental health services.
