Additional Backup Information:
In order to establish, modify or alter the existing speed limit of a street, the Texas traffic laws require that a traffic engineering investigation be performed. The Austin Transportation Department (ATD) conducted an investigation of Slaughter Lane (West) in accordance with the procedures specified in the Texas Department of Transportation’s Texas Procedures for Establishing Speed Zones, 2006 and the Federal Highway Administration’s USLIMITS2 tool.
Currently, the speed limit is 50 miles per hour from Escarpment Boulevard to R.M. 1826. The Austin Transportation Department recommends establishing a speed limit of 45 miles per hour on this segment as a more appropriate speed limit based on its engineering investigation of operations and safety. ATD recommends the following amendment to City Code Section 12-4-64 (D) (Table of Speed Limits):
Delete:
Slaughter Lane (West) from Escarpment to R.M. 1826. (50 MPH)
Add:
Slaughter Lane (West) from Escarpment Boulevard to R.M. 1826. (45 MPH)
