December 17, 2015 - Council authorized the negotiation and execution of an interlocal agreement with the Austin Independent School District, on a 10-0 vote with Council Member Zimmerman abstaining.

The Austin Corps Program (Program) was organized in September 2010 at the request of the Superintendent of the Austin Independent School District and the City Mayor, as a civic engagement program for high school seniors enrolled in government classes at Akins and Crockett High Schools. The Program was established to provide high school students an opportunity to become involved in local government. The students work as interns at City workplaces, learning how to turn classroom experience into a real-life municipality experience.

The Program has expanded since it began operating in 2010, when the Program had approximately 12 students from two schools. The Program initially operated from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Now the Program has grown to 35 students from six schools, which includes Akins, Austin, Crockett, Reagan, LBJ, and Travis. Students participate from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Monday and Wednesday throughout the school-year.
