Additional Backup Information:

The contract with Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP was effective July 2020. Since the start of this contract, the City has had an increased need for these services because of expansion projects, remodels, aging buildings, and aging equipment.

The Department of Aviation (Aviation) has continued to expand its existing terminal and has added two new multiple level facilities that were not part of the original estimate. There are also four major projects in the pipeline that will increase the system count and device counts significantly. Aviation is also performing additional in-house remodel activities that require device relocation, additions, and re-programming as well as an increase in system and device failures due to aging equipment and infrastructure.

The Austin Convention Center has aging equipment and infrastructure, requiring an increase in preventative maintenance and repairs.

This contract provides inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm, fire suppression systems, and alarm monitoring for various City buildings, as well as system upgrades and new system installations when necessary. Maintenance services occur on a monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual basis or performed as needed. Services provided under this contract comply with all applicable State, City, and National Fire Protection Association guidelines as they relate to maintenance, repair, and inspections of life safety systems.

Failure to approve the proposed amendment may result in fire alarm and fire suppression systems at City facilities not being fully operational or in compliance with Texas State Administrative Code, Chapter 551, Fire Alarms, Detection Systems, and Sprinkler Systems.
