Additional Backup Information:

Approval of this item will provide job readiness training and summer employment for youth ages 14 to 21 in collaboration with public sector employers and community-based organizations through the Summer Youth Employment Program, operated by Travis County.  It provides opportunities for youth development through meaningful work experiences that promote economic self-sufficiency, good citizenship, and healthy lifestyles, with a special emphasis on high-risk youth and youth with disabilities.  Youth are trained in career exploration and job readiness skills, conflict resolution, personal health and environmental awareness, and other employment-related issues.

This action will provide a one-time increase in funding for a second 12-month renewal term beginning October 1, 2022, from the initial authorized amount of $371,455 to $614,480.  The additional one-time funds of $269,480 was approved by City Council on August 17, 2022 through a Budget Rider from Council Member Tovo, on a 10-1 vote with Council Member Kelly voting nay.

Travis County will also be increasing its contribution to the agreement for the term to increase the hourly wage from $7.25 to $13.00 for the youth participants.
