Fiscal Note

A Capital Area Emergency Communications District reimbursement in the amount of $211,560 to the City will be used as a funding source.

Prior Council Action:

On December 5, 2019, Council authorized negotiation and execution of an interlocal agreement (ILA) with the Capital Area Emergency Communications District (CAECD) to reimburse the City in the amount of $6,000,000 for radio equipment and services purchased by the City to improve emergency communications for CAECD. A portion of the ILA-approved funding was to be used to support Greater Austin-Travis County Regional Radio System (GATRRS) contiguous county affiliate subsystem improvements in Caldwell and Burnet Counties.

For More Information:

Inquiries should be directed to Pushpa Srinivasa, CTM-Wireless Communication Services Division Manager, (512) 972-3209, pushpa.srinivasa@austintexas.gov.

Additional Backup Information:

Capital Area Emergency Communications District (CAECD) has reimbursed the City of Austin $5,788,440 of the $6,000,000 identified in the ILA authorized by Council on December 5, 2019, leaving a balance of $211,560. Burnet Council has identified a previously unidentified need for: 1) an archiving interface that will port Burnet County’s GATRRS radio traffic into a new 9-1-1 recording system, purchased with other funds, and 2) additional control station radio equipment to be installed at the Burnet County Sheriff’s emergency dispatch center to serve as back-ups in the event the wireline circuits to the GATRRS system in Austin go down.
