Additional Backup Information:

The COVID-19 pandemic shed light on the need for regulated childcare during nontraditional hours for essential workers.  For many parents, home-based childcare is not only the most affordable and accessible option, but the only option for care during nontraditional hours, like evenings, nights, and weekends. These grant funds will support a planning grant to help create a comprehensive network strategy for home-based childcare providers that promotes childcare quality, sustainability, and the well-being of providers, with a primary focus on equity. Currently, our community lacks a comprehensive strategy and structure for meeting these needs. Additionally, the network would serve as an informative resource for shaping public policy and funding decisions.

The General Fund will not be required to contribute additional funds beyond those currently budgeted to this grant. When the grant funds expire, the Austin Public Health Department’s need for continued funding will be evaluated and may be denied.
