An application requesting a street name change was submitted by Circuit of the Americas. The reasons for the street name change as stated on the application are consistent with Code Section 14-5-4 (Allowed Reasons for Street Name Change), "to enhance a neighborhood through the association of a street name with its location, area characteristics, and history."
Currently Circuit of the Americans Boulevard extends only to Elroy Road. The applicant seeks to have Kellam Road's name be changed to Circuit of the Americas Boulevard from SH 71 to Circuit of the Americas Boulevard, where it merges into Circuit of the Americas Boulevard at the interchange of Elroy Road; giving the thoroughfare the same name throughout to help reduce confusion by enabling more people to take a direct route to their destination. The applicant believes this will help facilitate traffic patterns that are based on both community and event needs when moving through Del Valle and City of Austin community.
The street in question transcends jurisdictional lines between the City of Austin full purpose jurisdiction and Travis County. The City of Austin Transportation and Public Works Department is working with Travis County simultaneously.
