Additional Backup Information:

The Parks and Recreation Department (Department) determined that, as noted above, Council has named two features of the Barton Springs Bathhouse but has not named the entire building, and the Department complied with all the requirements of City Code §§ 14-1-36-14-1-39 to name a park facility. Specifically, on September 12, 2023, the Department Director notified the Parks and Recreation Board, the City Manager, and the City Council of the receipt of an application to name the Barton Springs Bathhouse the Joan Means Khabele Bathhouse at Barton Springs. During the 90-day public comment period that followed, the Department’s Communications and Engagement Unit notified the community of the naming proposal through several outlets, including email and social media notifications, in-person pop-up events at Barton Springs Pool, and a survey that allowed community members to indicate support or nonsupport of the proposal. Following the 90-day period, the Director submitted the application to the Parks and Recreation Board. There were no other nominations or endorsements.
