September 21, 2022 - On a 3-0 vote, the recommendation to forward the status changes to the full council was made on was made on Council Member Fuentes’s motion, Council Member Tovo’s second, on a 3-0 vote, with Council Member Kelly and Mayor ProTem Alter off the dais.

Staff recommends proposed bylaw amendments as follows:
• Edit Name of Commission to “Commission of Aging” including updating all related reference to “Seniors” to “Aging” or Aging Adults” as appropriate.
• Edit Article 2: PURPOSE AND DUTIES OF OFFICERS - to change language referencing senior members of the public to "older adults
• Add Article 3 (B). MEMBERSHIP - - to add details regarding membership requirements. Remaining subsection in Article 3 to be renumbered accordingly. New section to read: "The commission should include members who are representatives of or sensitive to the needs of the older adult population. Members should have substantive knowledge on issues concerning older adults including but not limited to health, affordable housing, basic needs, transportation, social engagement and inclusion, and caregiver support. The commission should be inclusive and represent a diversity of ethnicity, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, and national origin; and include older adults who are representatives of the Austin community."
• Edit Article 8 (A): COMMITTEES/WORKING GROUPS - to edit the name of the Commission to include "Aging" instead of "Seniors"
