The City Manager proposes these changes so that Planning Department staff are better able to manage their workload and, as a result, internal and external stakeholder expectations.
If approved, this resolution will authorize the City Manager to prepare amendments to the Land Development Code that accomplish the following:
1. Allow the director of the Planning Department to establish submittal dates and limits on the number of applications that can be filed per day.
2. Modify the timelines for an application to be scheduled and considered by a Land Use Commission and City Council.
The City Manager proposes a six-month pilot program for the amendments to application timelines. The goal of the program will be to reduce the number of postponements at Land Use Commission and City Council meetings. Extending these application timeframes will provide Planning Department staff, applicants, and neighbors more time to resolve issues before the applications are noticed, scheduled, and considered.
